About SLANT System® Training and CertificationSlant System® is an accredited teacher training program and an Orton-Gillingham multimodal structured literacy method of teaching reading, based on the large body of research supporting the structured literacy approach. This method is especially effective for children with dyslexia and those who struggle to read. Successful completion of Advanced Training in Slant System® leads to certification as a Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher or Structured Literacy and Dyslexia Specialist. Teachers who complete certification acquire a very specialized skill set to teach children using a systematic, sequential, multimodal, evidence-based approach to teaching reading that has been backed by decades of scientific research. The following are the 3 levels of coursework leading to certification: • Slant System® Structured Literacy Foundations (a prerequisite for Advanced Training with or without Practicum) • Slant System® Structured Literacy Advanced Training (for Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher Certification) • Slant System® Structured Literacy Advanced Training with Practicum (for Structured Literacy and Dyslexia Specialist Certification) Training is appropriate for K-12 classroom teachers, reading specialists, interventionists, special education teachers, administrators, and any educator looking to increase their knowledge and skill set in the Orton-Gillingham multimodal structured literacy approach. Originally designed for students with dyslexia, Slant System® is a very individualized, diagnostic and prescriptive approach . It has been proven over the past 25 years to be very effective for every student, but especially effective for students who struggle to learn to read. Slant System® instruction can be implemented as a supplement to core reading programs to teach decoding and spelling to all students, as well as in small group or 1:1 intervention. Students will achieve foundational literacy skills leading to improved phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. The Slant System®'s professional development program is designed to prepare teachers to teach reading, spelling, and writing skills to EVERY STUDENT, but especially effective for individuals diagnosed with language based reading difficulties, or dyslexia. Teachers who are interested in receiving an in-depth understanding of the methods, scope and sequence, and overall improving their practice in Orton-Gillingham structured literacy would benefit from completing Advanced Training leading to certification. The certification process begins after an individual has participated in the SLANT System® Structured Literacy Foundations course. Training in the SLANT System® can provide the knowledge of the English language structure and tools necessary to explicitly and systematically teach every student at any grade level, the literacy skills that will benefit them for life. |
