"I know there are a lot of Orton-Gillingham programs out there, but what I love about SLANT is that along with my training comes ALL THE MATERIALS! I don't have to go searching for decodables or make anything on my own. It's all so simple and laid out for me. The stories are so fun and engaging too! My students love them and I learn right along with them." "I truly think my SLANT Training is the best training I have ever had in my entire career. My most severe students continue to amaze me with the strides they make. I know this wouldn't have been possible before my training." |

"I took my first SLANT classes in Summer 2001 and went on to use the program in my special education classes and tutoring practice for the next 15 years. Students I taught to read through the years using the SLANT System, students who were labeled as “never going to learn to read” by their school districts, have gone on to graduate from the University of Illinois, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Iowa State University, and Marquette University, to name a few. One student, a boy who was a non reader in the 3rd grade, started his residency in Psychiatry in Chicago this summer. Another student, a girl I started tutoring in first grade, graduated in June with a Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Oregon and is teaching at an area high school. I could give many more examples, but suffice it to say that Marsha’s hard work and vision enabled many of us who worked with her to change the lives of students over many years. For that, I am forever grateful."

"As a private tutor who specializes in working with children with dyslexia, I have watched my students grow leaps and bounds using the SLANT System for Structured Language Training. This Orton-Gillingham approach teaches the necessary skills using all different learning styles in a unique, fun way to build confidence for my students who struggle with reading, spelling and writing. I have been so amazed to see how much progress my students have made using the SLANT System. It is great when you hear from a parent that their child is now picking up a book to read or shined on this week’s spelling test that now their teacher is giving them more difficult words. Most of all, I have loved hearing from my older students who have said that they continue to use the many strategies I have taught them from SLANT in school and they are going to college now and becoming successful in their everyday lives!"

"For the first time in my 20 year career of teaching children with special needs, this is the first training that I have had that has really made me understand how to teach reading and to do so effectively. Since teaching the SLANT System to my students, their reading and spelling skills are growing leaps and bounds! Thank you so much for this invaluable training!"
- Tracy Edwards, Special Education Teacher
"Thank you for a wonderful year (of SLANT training)! I've enjoyed learning so much that was new for me. You've created an extraordinarily thorough, smartly sequential, and enjoyable (for students and teacher, alike) program. It will be a privilege to use SLANT with my students in the years to come."

"My child has had an IEP for a few years now. His resource teacher started using Slant about 2 years ago. The growth in my son's reading since starting Slant has been amazing. Not only to speak on his growth but his confidence in his reading has skyrocketed. He even volunteers to read in class which never would happen before. Also, with elearning last year I was able to see some of the Slant exercises over Zoom with his resource teacher. He would fly right through them as I would still be thinking about the answer. Truly, Slant is an amazing program that is setting my child up for a bright future." |
"The SLANT System training I received really opened my eyes to the importance of a multi-sensory, systematic and explicit way of teaching. Not only has this training made me a better teacher of reading, but everything I teach!"
- Nadia Wilkinson, Resource Teacher
"At 18 months old our daughter underwent corrective eye surgery. Thankfully the surgery was a success, but she was severely nearsighted. She has been wearing prescription glasses ever since. Throughout her young life she has struggled not only with her vision, but also with reading and was later diagnosed with dyslexia. She was reading significantly below grade level and her teachers recommended an evaluation for an IEP. The evaluation showed a definite need for reading intervention. Her teachers were doing a commendable job and she was improving. However, she was becoming stressed and discouraged so we reached out to Karla O’Brien. We had heard positive reviews of the SLANT method and decided to give it a try. The results were amazing. Our daughter immediately benefited from the method. Her confidence and attitude towards reading was positively transformed. Karla is a gifted educator who utilizes her vast experience in a way that is compassionate and approachable. Our daughter looked forward to her sessions with her. I am pleased to say our daughter is now reading at her grade level. I cannot thank Karla O’Brien enough and would recommend this method to any parent."
